Silver Lake, Harston Cabin, and Escalante

When Rachel comes to town, we squeeze in all the family time and adventures that we can, especially since our Grand Canyon trip had to be cancelled.  We went up to Brighton for a beautiful hike.  The Beuses were quarantining with COVID, but we still managed to distance and see them at the lake.  Jared did some trail blazing and went up the mountain behind the cabin with Jenny, Eric and Honey.  All the kids practiced and performed their Baba Yaga play at the cabin, directed by Jordan.  Michael, Jordan and Isaac took the kayaks to the Beaver Dam for the first time ever and braved the mosquitos.  And Grandpa had a birthday!  Next we camped in Escalante.  Amy planned some awesome slot canyon and petroglyph hikes.  Eric rescued Honey when the sand was too hot and grandpa rescued us all with snowcones.  Jared and the older boys visited the petrified forest as well, before heading back home.    -July 2020

Our People Pictures

Some of the meals I enjoyed.  Babaganosh, inspired by Rachel, and our standby Borsch.
Hungry Hippo activity.  Pie Face.  Yea for pancakes with our ground wheat and natural yeast!  Reading time.  Pony tails or palm trees.  Olive Garden dinner with Michael's gift card from before his trip to Italy was canceled.  Jordan's Sunday lego temple creation.

2 year old Maren

We love our handmade birthday cards from Grandma Deanie!  We had cupcakes at Utah Lake with Harston cousins during the boating outing with Jim Daniels.  Birthday waffles too!  Clarence shares a birthday within a day or two with Maren, so we celebrated him too.  We are so grateful for this fun girl!!

City of Rocks May 2020

The new format with the comments together at the top is better for printing into a blog book.  Not as great for captions, but it keeps the photos layout together.
This was the best adventure and trip close to home!  We visited on a Sunday and had a picnic lunch at the visitors center and then church at one of the beautiful campsites!  The rest of the afternoon was for explore.  So many fun areas!  Leisel and the older boys went with dad on the bathtub climb.  There was a beautiful hike by a stream.   By evening it was getting chili.  We ate some dinner and Michael drove home getting some of his first freeway and night driving hours.  Whew!
We got to spend the night and the next day with the Clarks.  Jordan made a deadfall trap.  And the men put the footings together for the front porch/cold storage room.  So cool!

Projects at home

Jared put in a swinging gate and gravel parking area for the sailboats on the side of the house.  He bought hundreds of pounds of dry food and packaged it for long term storage.  He also installed an attic access in the garage and moved storage into it.  We found an unused chicken coop in a nearby neighborhood and left a note (covid style) with a phone number offering to buy it.  They were willing and helpful, so we loaded it up and brought it home.  And then the kids helped stain it.
